Niigata lacquerware
Niigata lacquerware is lacquerware manufactured around Niigata City, Niigata Prefecture. During the Edo period, Niigata was a port of call for the Kitamaebune ships, and various cultures from all over the country were brought in through land and sea routes. This area is historically important as a trading area for goods, with sales channels extending all the way to Edo, Osaka, and even Hokkaido. Lacquerware culture took root in Niigata in the early Edo period, and in the late Edo period it became known as one of Japan's leading lacquerware producing areas. The lacquerware produced in Niigata is characterized by a wide variety of colors and patterns, and is even referred to as a ``treasure trove of unique lacquerware''. This is because Niigata was a distribution center for many goods, and a variety of people and goods gathered from all over the country, creating a rich lacquerware culture.

"Ishime-nuri" expresses the rough texture of stone, and the coating is hard and prevents scratches on the surface.

Coating on metal
After several years of trial and error, we have finally made it possible to apply lacquer to metal surfaces, which have been said to be unsuitable for lacquering due to their low water absorption and drying properties, including selecting and mixing the materials to be used, changing the undercoating method, and changing other processing steps. The warm ``stone-grain'' texture applied to the base metal writing instrument is unique.
In order to promote Niigata lacquerware, a traditional craft of Niigata City, to the world, at the G7 Niigata Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meeting held in Niigata City in May 2023, a square plate painted with hazy silver in the same color as the one used this time was used at the dinner party, and was also presented to ministers from each country as a souvenir.
