Classic Ko Maki-e Bunbo Fountain Pen/Ballpoint Pen
Wabi-sabi, Mitate, Margin ―――
Japanese aesthetics have cultivated the richness of spiritual life by tailoring modern and simple designs to everyday items.
Classic Ko expresses these in the world of jewelry, combining traditional Maki-e techniques with modern sensibilities.
This is a Maki-e fountain pen/ballpoint pen with a new appearance that can be enjoyed along with jewelry, with that worldview.
■About the product name "Maki-e Bunbo Fountain Pen/Ballpoint Pen"
"Bunbo" means a room for reading or writing, or a so-called "study room." In the past, writers were recognized to have a special attachment to stationery as stationery tools, and brushes, ink, inkstones, and paper came to be particularly valued as the "four treasures of the stationery."
We want people to reconsider the way they enjoy writing as seen in this way, and write freely with maki-e fountain pens and ballpoint pens as stationery tools. We want people to carefully consider their words and deliver letters to their loved ones. We want to bring back the act of writing as a precious time once again. With this in mind, we named our products "Maki-e Bunko Fountain Pens and Ballpoint Pens."
■About Oshita Kosen Kobo and Classic Ko
Oshita Kosen Kobo, a maki-e workshop that has been in business since 1894 in Kaga City, Ishikawa Prefecture, has been creating and passing on Kaga maki-e, which requires advanced decorative techniques that the founder, Oshita Yukika, learned in Kanazawa, in the mountains of his hometown. They have specialized in high-end writing instruments and tea ceremony utensils, and are devoted to pursuing the pureness, delicacy, and elegance of Kaga Maki-e.
Oshita Kosen Studio's jewelry brand "Classic Ko" utilizes the techniques of Maki-e and Urushi, a decorative technique that has been passed down through the ages, while creating a unique mix of beauty that is passed down with modern sensibilities. They create their pieces using outstanding techniques that involve sprinkling gold and silver metal powder on top of a lacquer painting, hardening it, and polishing it to create the finished product. The jewelry, which combines natural materials, traditional techniques, and modern sensibilities, is highly narrative and can be enjoyed by people of all nationalities and generations.
