Traditional Lacquer Craft Saiga
A writing instrument series that expresses the traditional Japanese "color" and graceful beauty "miyabi" with colored lacquer

The body is made of ebonite, and the lacquer surface is polished and coated with colored lacquer many times using the "ishime-nuri" lacquering technique, which makes the lacquer surface uneven like the skin of stone. The nib is equipped with Sailor Fountain Pen's unique 21-karat gold nib, which provides a supple writing experience. The extra-large nib has a two-tone finish, making it a heavy-duty pen. This product is the work of Kobayashi Isshin, an artist who lives in Kaga City and has been involved in lacquer art for nearly 30 years.

The coloring is available in four elegant colors.
【Pale scent】An elegant color that was loved during the Heian period, derived from dyeing with fragrant woods
【Sappan】A traditional color described in the Engishiki*, a noble color that was loved by Heian aristocrats
【Deep blue】A dignified color that was favored by samurai as the "color of victory"
【Chitose green】A color that is imbued with auspicious meanings such as "eternal immutability" and "eternal youth and longevity"
The package is a paulownia box that is said to be ideal for storing lacquer products, and the tying cord is made of strong Sanada cord that is hard to stretch.
*The Engishiki is a formal code compiled in the mid-Heian period. It is one of the three major formal codes.

◆About the lacquer art technique "Ishime-nuri"
Ishime-nuri is a lacquer painting technique that makes the surface of the lacquer uneven like the skin of a stone. To create a fine stone grain, lacquer is applied and then sprinkled with "charcoal powder" or "dried lacquer powder", and then lacquer is applied on top and polished. Also, because lacquer hardens by absorbing moisture from the air, it takes several days to weeks to dry, and therefore several months to complete a lacquer work of art.
This product is made by applying a layer of lacquer to the ebonite of the fountain pen body as a base treatment, applying a layer of undercoat lacquer on top of that, sprinkling dry lacquer powder in the same color as the color lacquer, and then applying a layer of finishing lacquer to hold it down. After that, the finishing color lacquer is applied multiple times and polished to create this exquisite product.
