가을의 무렵, 해변에 모인 참새가 갑자기 모습을 숨겨 버리는 것은, 바다에 들어가서 돌아다닌다고 믿어져 온 것에 유래합니다.

유카와 아츠코씨의 자택 베란다에서는, 먹이 접시를 목표로 하는 새들이 자유롭게 새장을 출입한다고 하는, 좀처럼 초현실적인 광경이 펼쳐지고 있었습니다.
박공 지붕이 쇼와의 문화 주택적인 그 새장은, 측벽의 와이어가 잘려져 있는 것입니다. 게다가, 베란다에 면하는 장자문에는 작은 엿보기 창이 열려 있어, 새들에게 스트레스를 끼치지 않도록, 마음껏 관찰할 수 있는 구조가 되어 있습니다.
1997년 유카와는 바쁜 회사원 생활을 졸업하고 일러스트레이터로서 독립하는 길을 선택했습니다. 유카와씨가 본령을 발휘하는 동식물의 일러스트는, 이러한 일상의 사촌을, 제대로 정중하게 바라보는 눈빛에 지지되고 있는 것입니다.
단순한 세밀화인 것을 넘어, 독특한 온화함을 축적시키고 있는 곳입니다.
이중 카드의 표지에 그려진 것은 깃털을 쉬고 멈추는 새입니다. 그런데 카드를 열면 새가 튀어나온다는 구조의 토비다스토리. 「새는 날 때 처음으로 나타나는 모양이나 특징이 있으므로, 그것을 표현하고 싶다. 하지만 실은 나, 날지 않는 새의 모습을 정말 좋아하므로 그것도 그리고 싶다」라고 하는 유카와씨가, 자신의 요구에 스스로 응해 보았습니다.
